The program helped me be more confident in my abilities to connect with others and has given me the courage to truly stretch myself to do things that I never thought I could. I can honestly say that the Evergreen experience has changed my life forever.

Arlington, TX (PRWEB) January 10, 2013

Three Delta Delta Delta Fraternity members will return to Costa Rica during their spring break for Evergreen®, a journey in leadership, sponsored by the Fraternity. Hannah Olsen, Haley Cowan and Danielle LaCoste all traveled to Costa Rica last year as participants in the Fraternity’s initial Evergreen leadership program, and this year, they will assist as interns.

The program will take place March 9-16, 2013, and will be led by Michael Greenberg, owner of Journey 360®. Also attending the trip will be Fraternity staff members: Cari Cook, Fraternity Executive Director; Alison Griffin, Fraternity Executive Board Member; Sarah Williamson, Director of Educational Initiatives; and Natalie Trilcek, Chapter Resources Coordinator.

Evergreen is a values-based, alternative spring break program that combines the allure of travel with self-examination and personal development. Participants discover the social, historical and geographic contours of Costa Rica while exploring the landscapes of their own heart and mind.

Evergreen 2013 intern Hannah Olsen, Loyola Marymount, says, “For me, Evergreen brought about a renewed zest for life and appreciation for the little things. I am so grateful for the friendships forged and the lessons learned on the trip. They still impact me today, over half a year later. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to go back to the place where I had such a wonderful experience.”

This year, participants were selected in November after an application process that involved essays and questions about their leadership experiences. The 19 women selected represent Tri Delta chapters from across the country.

Intern Haley Cowan, Oklahoma, hopes this year’s Evergreen participants “will find their passion for leadership, discover what they are capable of as leaders, and be able to bring it back to their chapter.”

“We are so excited to have our interns to pass on the knowledge they gained last year as participants,” says Jeanne Reese, President of The Center for Living, Learning & Leading. “We selected these three women specifically because they demonstrated that they’ve already put to use what they learned from the experience.”

Danielle LaCoste, Baylor, is looking forward to assisting her sisters and being on another side of the experience as an intern. Reflecting on her first Evergreen experience, Danielle says, “The program helped me be more confident in my abilities to connect with others and has given me the courage to truly stretch myself to do things that I never thought I could. I can honestly say that the Evergreen experience has changed my life forever. I feel blessed every day and am continually grateful for not only the positive changes and opportunities I have seen in my life, but also for the opportunity to experience it all over again!”

All three program interns are excited for the development opportunities that await both them and the participants on this journey. They are looking forward to sharing the land of Pura Vida with this year’s participants. In addition to their leadership training, members will also have unique opportunities for adventure, including zip-lining through the rainforest and white water rafting.

Tri Delta is especially excited that this year’s group will return to a school in Sona Fluca and help build an addition that will house a library and recreational center as a way to give back to the community.

The Fraternity will be sharing photos and videos from the trip throughout the week on its Facebook and Twitter pages.
