CitizenShipper Connects Drivers With Shipments in the US and Canada

Cost has played a significant role in attracting consumers to CitizenShipper.com. Customers have saved up to 90% in shipping costs as compared to the national average.

Denver, CO. (PRWEB) January 11, 2013

CitizenShipper has experienced triple digit annual growth in its number of shipments since the company was founded in 2008. The company’s CEO Richard Obousy used those numbers as well as consumer and competitor news to forecast a 300% increase in shipments for 2013. Obousy considered announcements by FedEx and UPS to increase rates by 4.9% as well as a marked increase in consumer use of online service marketplaces to determine CitizenShipper’s growth figure. "CitizenShipper offers customers a cheap shipping solution while helping drivers find delivery jobs." Explains CEO Richard Obousy.

Cost has played a significant role in attracting consumers to CitizenShipper.com. Customers have saved up to 90% in shipping costs as compared to the national average. According to the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA), a typical cost for trucking is between $1.06 and .69 cents per mile. CitizenShipper drivers can profit from charging much less because the company’s unique design makes use of empty space in vehicles that are already on the road. A recent CitizenShipper customer paid just .11 cents per mile to transport a pet 1,273 miles.

Obousy believes the company’s eco-friendly platform has also contributed to CitizenShipper’s popularity. “Oil and gas shortages during the past few years have made more people aware that conservation is very important,” said Obousy. “Our customers are impressed with our ability to reduce carbon emissions.” Since its start in 2008, CitizenShipper has reduced carbon emissions by 6,360,446 lbs.

CitizenShipper is one of many peer-to-peer marketplaces that experienced significant growth during 2012 including Airbnb, Deskwanted, and Spinlister. Experts say the trend will continue in 2013. As the peer-to-peer marketplace expands in size and scope – moving beyond goods to a wide range of services – it will increasingly upend major industries from hospitality to tourism and transportation, according to a recent report by top global advertising agency JWT.
