On January 14, fishbat releases a new video as part of their “fishbat Splash” series, which aims to keep people informed on the latest news in the world of digital marketing and advertising.
The latest episode describes the online slideshow service, Slide.ly. Launched last summer, the startup provides a free and fairly dynamic slideshow creation tool. “With one click, users can turn their Facebook photo albums into live slideshows,” reports Scott Darrohn, COO for the Internet marketing company fishbat and host of “fishbat Splash.”
The site supports importing from many of the most popular photo-sharing and photo-hosting platforms around, including industry titans like Facebook and Instagram, as well as Flickr, Pickplz, Picasa, and Google Images. Users can also upload pictures directly from their hard drive.
“Slide.ly also gives the option of adding colorful effects to photos, or mood-appropriate background music,” says Darrohn. The site offers support for mixing content from Soundcloud and YouTube into the slideshows, or users can upload mp3s directly.
The resulting slideshows are “live” and the service provides various sharing options, including Facebook and Twitter posts as well as emailing. The Slide.ly service is a product of EasyHi, an app development project based in Tel Aviv. The heavy integration into social media adds a narrative element to users’ slideshow curation, allowing the Slide.ly platform to compete seriously with other instant slideshow tools.
The Slide.ly service debuted in June and around a million slideshows have been created on the site since then, according to Darrohn. Slide.ly plans to debut a smartphone app this year which will allow iPhone users to incorporate videos taken on their cell phones into their slideshows.
