We'd like them to see we're a legitimate organization, we've been around for a while, we've got our act together, we've got everything in place. And here's what we want to do and here's how we're going to do it.
Madison, WI (PRWEB) January 13, 2013
On Tuesday, January 15 Madison Dental Initiative or MDI is holding its first Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors at 8313 Greenway Boulevard, Suite 150, Madison, WI, according to Madison dentist Matthew Kutz, DDS. MDI has provided free quality dental care to the residents of the Salvation Army homeless shelter in Madison, WI since 2009. Today MDI has more than 20 volunteer dentists and scores of other student and professional volunteers, and has provided weekly services to hundreds of patients in need.
The purpose of the annual meeting is to review past accomplishments and the current state of the organization and to create a strategic plan for the coming year. MDI President and Madison WI dentist Matthew Kutz, DDS and his dental partner at Riverplace Dental, MDI Vice President Madison WI dentist Laura Tills, DDS helped co-found MDI and have been instrumental in getting the organization to this point. Dr. Kutz said, "We're basically just going to go through our strategic plan for 2013, including our goals and our accounting and funding sources. This is the first year we're planning for a full year. We've created a vision and mission statement and now we have a formalized board for the first time."
One of the primary purposes of this meeting is to help formalize MDI and raise awareness of its activities, particularly by those who may donate to the program. Dr. Kutz noted, "The board meets privately on a regular basis. But a number of other people and organizations have been invited to this meeting. In particular, we've invited those who are likely to donate money to this project." As with most projects requiring donations, legitimacy is often a major hurdle. Dr. Kutz said, "We've invited a number of larger organizations that have been doing similar things. We'd like them to see we're a legitimate organization, we've been around for a while, we've got our act together, we've got everything in place. And here's what we want to do and here's how we're going to do it."
The members of MDI's Board of Directors include Matthew Kutz DDS (President), Laura Tills DDS (Vice President), Rambod Fard DDS (Secretary), Dan Murray CPA (Treasurer), Ben Farrow DDS (Dental Director), and Chelsey Kilmer RDH (Clinic Coordinator). Beginning on January 15, Lisa Bell RDH formally takes on the role of Executive Director of MDI. As noted above, this is the first formal annual meeting for MDI. Says Dr. Kutz, "This is going to be the first formal meeting of our board and we'll be confirming our mission and vision statements and setting our strategic plan in place. We really have not done this before."
Over the 3 years since its inception, the Madison dentists volunteering at MDI have provided free dental services worth nearly $300,000. This includes the equivalent value of procedures performed, patient visits, x-rays, student volunteer hours, and professional volunteer hours. The clinic has helped patients receive fillings and extractions, as well as preventive measures such as deep periodontal cleanings and dental sealants.
