Veteran Musician MS Viswanathan Conferred Doctorate, Says Tamilstar.com

Veteran film musician, MS Viswanathan, received an honorary doctorate from Tirunelveli based Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.

The 20th Convocation for students was held in anonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU) yesterday. Governor Rosaiah presided over the convocation and conferred the degrees on the students.

Higher Studies Minister Palaniappan and Sivathanupillai participated and made special addresses.

Vice Chancellor Kumaraguru made the welcome address. A doctorate was given to veteran film musician, MS Viswanathan, who composed music for Tamil Mother Anthem. Tamil Nadu governor Rosaiah conferred the doctorate on him.

Viswanathan, popularly called 'mellisai mannar MSV', has scored music for nearly 700 films in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, mostly along with his friend Ramamoorthy. Viswanathan was always in demand and was the highest paid music director for two decades till 1980. Apart from a number of awards, Viswanathan was also conferred a honorary doctorate in 2006 by Sathyabama University.

For those who completed PHD research studies, 38 M.Phil Graduates, 56 gold medal winners in higher studies, and 42 gold medal winners in graduation were directly conferred to the graduates.

About 27,251 students were conferred degrees for completion of studies through the college.

Students Aruna and Rebecca won 2 gold medals. Collector Samaya Moorthy, Mayor Vigila Satyanand, Housing Board head Murugaiah Pandiyan, Muthuchelvi MLA, registrar Govindaraj, Prabahakaran, Nellai City ADMK Secretary Sudha Paramasivan, Joint Secretary Thachai Ganesaraja, treasurer RB Adhithan, Bharani Sankaralingam, Nellai Regional Chairman Mohan, principals of various colleges, professors and students participated.
