Dallas, Texas, U.S.A. (PRWEB) January 14, 2013

Universal CDN (UCDN), a high-performance content delivery network provider, today announced it had opened edge storage nodes in New York City and Los Angeles. They will help provide increased speed and lower latency for content delivery across the U.S. and to Europe.

The research firm MarketsandMarkets has projected the market for global content delivery to grow from $2.1 billion in 2011 to $7.4 billion by 2017, with an estimated CAGR of 24.6% from 2012 to 2017. Content delivery networks have grown rapidly as a solution enabling service providers to handle greatly increased volumes of bandwidth-intensive, time-critical multimedia and e-commerce traffic while ensuring a very high quality of service from the provider to the end user.

"Existing tools such as network optimization offer only a partial solution to service providers struggling to keep up with the rapid increase of web-based rich content," said Rajesh Mishra, chief financial officer of XBT Holding Ltd. of which UCDN is a subsidiary. "In the U.S., 42 percent of Americans regularly stream video content on Internet-enabled mobile and fixed devices, and the volume of global network traffic is projected to quadruple by 2014. Today's announcement represents our delivering on the promise to continue increasing the speed and quality of CDN services in content-rich regions such as the U.S. and Europe."

The New York and Los Angeles storage nodes became operational on January 1, 2013. UCDN's European nodes are in London, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam. In a content delivery network, storage nodes simplify the data transfer to local users by storing large amounts of data in the location nearest to them.
