The report, which includes the results of a comprehensive survey of recent home buyers, measures the influence of digital tools at each stage of the buying process to help builders determine where to invest marketing dollars in 2013.

In the survey, which was conducted in September 2012, recent home buyers were asked to indicate which digital tools were most influential at each stage of their home buying process. Buyers were asked to provide feedback for a variety of digital tools, including: SEO, paid search, email, social media, interactive floor plans, virtual tours and more. Respondents were also asked to rate the influence of on-site tools such as kiosks, tablet devices, and videos.
In addition to the overall results, the report also measures how each digital tool influences a home buying decision based on buyer age, experience, geographic region, and home price. According to Diffee, the survey results reveal surprising insights about how home buyers use digital tools differently based on demographics.
“The survey results dispel many of the myths about how home buyers research a new home purchase. For example, although younger buyers are considered to be more tech savvy, in some cases buyers over 65 demonstrated similar preferences to those under 25. Understanding the nuances of how buyers in each market, price point, and age range use digital tools to make a new home purchase decision gives builders a tremendous opportunity to personalize the buying experience,” says Diffee.
