Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) January 17, 2013
The Green Chamber is partnering with the Arizona Central Branch of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) to bring nationally acclaimed green architect and author of Green Building for Dummies and Green $ense for the Home, Eric Corey Freed, to Phoenix on January 25, 2013 to present, Attack of the Dodo-Sapiens: Innovative New Models for Sustainable Development.
Freed, the owner of organicARCHITECT, has been hailed for his work in sustainable urban design in arid communities, helping bring to life bold, new ideas for transforming cities and suburbs into regenerative and restorative places.
Leslie Lindo, The Green Chamber’s Board President, said, “Freed is a perfect fit for our new national series of speakers because his work dovetails with our mission to use the principles of sustainability to create profitability and a more diverse economy.”
Mr. Freed, LEED AP, Hon. FIGP, is a licensed architect (California, New Mexico, Arizona) and a recognized pioneer in the tradition of Organic Architecture, first developed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mr. Freed attended Temple University College of Architecture and focused his concentration on Urban Design in Rome, Italy. Mr. Freed co-developed the Sustainable Design programs at the Academy of Art University and University of California Berkeley Extension. He sits on the boards of Architects, Designers & Planners for Social Responsibility (ADPSR), Green Home Guide and West Coast Green, as well as the advisory boards of nearly a dozen other organizations. Mr. Freed is the author of four books, including "Green Building & Remodeling for Dummies", a best seller with over 200,000 copies in print and "Sustainable School Architecture." His latest, “Green$ense for your Home”, won the 2011 Outstanding Book Award from the American Society of Journalists and Authors.
His speech will focus on:
- Discovering how biomimicry (study of nature as designer) can teach about how to transform the built environment
- Understanding new methods of saving water, restoring aquifers and recycling grey water by copying natural systems
- Uncovering hidden opportunities to radically transform existing cities and suburbs and selling it to local agencies
