Attorney Deborah Truhowsky, Senior Counsel for the Law Firm of D. F. Truhowsky, will lecture for a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) presentation titled "Protecting the Rights of Clients in a Nursing Home: Medicare Appeals and Personal Injury Suits" by the Elder Law Committee on Tuesday, January 22, 2013. Ms. Truhowsky will discuss her perspective as an Elder Neglect and Abuse Lawyer and her experiences with clients, identifying some of the common forms of elder abuse that can occur in residential care and nursing facilities. Ms. Truhowsky will also cover the legal rights and remedies that exist for residents who have been subject to neglect or abuse.
"Elder victims of neglect and abuse depend on loved ones and concerned third parties to help protect them," stated Ms. Truhowsky. "They are among our most vulnerable citizens. I appreciate this opportunity to help educate other professionals about both the signs of abuse in residents and the legal remedies that exist when abuse has occurred."
Ms. Truhosky added, "Residents of facilities are entitled to the same protections and rights as any person in our society, and can receive compensation when their rights have been violated."
The Elder Law Committee provides education to members of the Bar and the public on issues affecting the elderly, monitors legislation and proposes statutory changes. The program on January 22nd is for practitioners at all levels and recommended for those interested in nursing home litigation for their personal knowledge. Qualified attendees will receive 2 CLE Credits: 1 Skills/1 Professional Practice. The location of the presentation will be at 445 Hamilton Ave., 2nd Floor Conference Room, White Plains, NY. Registration begins at 8:00 AM and the program will be conducted from 8:30 until 10:30 AM.
