Columbus, OH (PRWEB) January 21, 2013
Just three days before Inauguration Day, Highlights magazine was among an exclusive group invited to participate in a roundtable discussion for kids with First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden at the White House. Margaret (Maggie) McDow, a sixth grader from Bexley, Ohio, represented Highlights at the event for kid reporters, which featured a discussion with Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden about the inauguration, life at the White House and Joining Forces, their initiative to support military families.
McDow will share her experience with readers in an upcoming issue of Highlights, and on the Aha! blog at http://blog.highlights.com the week of January 21.
“Highlights readers have great curiosity about the President, his family and our government, so we are thrilled to have the opportunity to give them a first-hand perspective,” said Christine French Cully, editor-in-chief of Highlights. “Maggie’s once-in-a-lifetime experience is one that millions of children can share through the pages of our magazine and on our blog.”
Twelve-year-old McDow was born in Connecticut, but also has lived in Virginia, Washington D.C. and East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania) while her parents conducted research there. Today she lives in the suburbs of Columbus where she enjoys reading, singing in the choir, and doing craft projects. She is a long-time reader of Highlights. The article on the White House roundtable will be her first written contribution to the magazine.
