Fifteen A.J. O’Connor (AJO) team members gathered last week, volunteering their time in support of Head Start of Morris County. This was the inaugural event marking the HR consulting firm’s 30th anniversary year in business. Family Service of Morris County (FSMC), where AJO’s president, Andy O’Connor, serves as a member of the Board of Managers graciously hosted the event. Coincidentally, FSMC is also celebrating a milestone year in 2013.
Guided by professional artists from Caring Capital, the AJO Team built and decorated six child-sized rocking chairs and one adult chair, then enhanced each one with accompanying pillows to ensure the children will have a cozy, comfortable place to sit and read in the newly renovated Head Start children’s library.
“When we thought of our 30th year in business and how we might celebrate, giving back came to the forefront. We are in a business where helping others is of utmost importance, so taking time from our day to help those less fortunate is very much aligned with our values and mission,” observed Andy O’Connor.
“We were delighted to be part of this celebration, working alongside Andy, his team and their clients, and to facilitate projects that benefit their local community,” added Susie Schub, president of Caring Capital.
Eileen Jankunis, Executive Director of Head Start was in attendance at the event along with Patrice Picard, CEO of FSMC. Both women shared information on the work of their respective organizations and Eileen described the children’s library renovation project in particular. After receiving the rocking chairs, Eileen shared, “We are so grateful to the AJO Team for their generosity. The rocking chairs are simply delightful and have already made a huge difference in the children's ability to enjoy our new library space. Susie Schub's company, Caring Capital, which organized and ran the event on behalf of AJO, has been so helpful to Head Start over the years."
