Clearwater, Fla. (PRWEB) January 23, 2013
A new case study released by revenue cycle management company Pyramid Healthcare Solutions describes how Sentara Medical Center in Woodridge, Va. partnered with Pyramid to achieve national accreditation from the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer (CoC).
Cancer registries catalog explicit data on cancer and data is utilized nationwide to conduct research, evaluate best practice treatments, detect geographical trends and examine survival rates. Yet, registries are often backlogged because Certified Tumor Registrars (CTRs) are in high demand and short supply, and cancer registry activities are often resource-intensive, time-consuming and costly.
The case study details how Pyramid utilized seasoned CTRs to provide end-to-end management of Sentara’s cancer program, a role that was instrumental in Sentara’s achievement of CoC accreditation. Pyramid support included assessing the cancer program for survey readiness, preparing for the CoC on-site survey, abstracting both on-site and remotely, assisting in elimination of cancer registry follow-up backlogs, registry assessment, and contracted management of the cancer registry.
The CoC Accreditation program demonstrates a healthcare facility’s commitment to providing the full scope of services required to diagnose, treat, rehabilitate and support patients with cancer and their families.
