Inspired by Samuel P. Huntington’s “The Clash of Civilizations”, “From the Graveyard of Civilizations: A Muslim Rejoinder to Huntington's Clash of Civilizations” (published by Trafford Publishing) is noted Pakistani poet, writer and literary activist Feza Aazmi’s thoughts on civilization– past and present.

Presented as a long poem, “From the Graveyard of Civilization” attempts to prove that most wars in history were essentially wars waged for hegemony and control of resources. Aazmi also takes a closer look at Huntington's book which he believes is a gross misinterpretation of historical facts and present day realities. He states that “he detects a distinct intent in Huntington’s book to malign Islamic faith and history in order to provide an excuse to launch actions against Muslim nations, and to develop a new pattern of hegemony over them.” With this clash against Huntington, Aazmi presents his alternative to a global society living in peace and security.

It is his hope that readers will gain a vision of a new world based on happiness for all and rooted in moral values that promote caring for each other which will lead to a real peaceful social order. “It is realistic, it is attainable,” he says, “it could become harbinger of a better world.”
