In the fast paced film industry time is everything. Film productions need to set up catering, video village and production offices outdoors as soon as possible in order to save time which equals money. The Los Angeles-based canopy distributor Ace Canopy has enabled companies to shave even more minutes on production times with their new model pop-up tents. In the past the largest pop-up tents were 10 x 20’. Ace Canopy has now created a 20 x 20’ pop and built for uses like productions, large events and outdoor vendors. The new 20 x 20 pop-up tent enables productions to set up in half the amount of time it would with their 10 x 20s.
Film production manager Len Rosenberg stated, “We need to make sure our crews are set up ASAP in the mornings. We cannot afford to go into overtime so things like this new large pop-up tent come in handy.”
Ace Canopy’s GM Angelina Urquhart said the company’s main obstacle was to make a pop-up tent canopy that was able to sustain heavy weight of the 20 x 20 frame. Not only did the tent frame need to be strong enough for extensive use but be stable enough to support itself. To save even more setup time Ace designed wheels at the bottom of the legs so the canopy tent can roll them while it’s being set up. Many film production rental companies that supply the expendables two film productions have placed orders for the 20 x 20 pop-up tents from Ace Canopy due to its current popularity. Last year Len Rosenberg’s production company was shooting a commercial at Vasquez Rocks in Southern California and needed to make sure that the production company was able to set up, shoot the commercial and breakdown within a nine hour period. Many people in the film production industry know that nine hours is practically a half day. Rosenberg attributes the new pop-up tent saved up to at least 45 minutes of production time.
