Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) January 24, 2013

With credit card and ATM fraud running rampant, engaged couples have found it easier to find legitimate wedding vendors through Wedding.com. Vendors are reviewed prior to being included in the wedding company’s vendor directory. Past or current clientele are also encouraged to leave written reviews of each as well.

Wedding.com implements these safety measures in an effort to streamline the wedding planning process while also maintaining a level of high quality vendors for couples to potentially hire. Without them, engaged couples may find themselves in an unnecessary and costly situation. As reported by Count on Two News Station, Robert Lawson Smith, a wedding planner in South Carolina who was not listed on Wedding.com, was recently arrested for $28,000 in unauthorized credit card payments to third-party wedding vendors (http://www2.counton2.com/news/2013/jan/23/charleston-wedding-planner-arrested-credit-card-fr-ar-5429222/). It is unclear how Smith came to be hired, but the couple had only authorized him to collect a retainer fee of $2,500.

“In an effort to avoid unfortunate situations similar to the one in South Carolina, we do our due diligence each time a new company requests to be added to our vendor directory,” said Brett Reynolds, CEO of Wedding.com. “Even so, we highly advise that couples closely review contracts prior to signing as well as keep an eye out on their credit card and bank statements for any unauthorized payments and fees.”
