Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) January 31, 2013
La Peer Health Systems is pleased to announce the launch of a brand new website, http://www.ColonoscopyMD.com, for a sub-division of the Beverly Hills surgery center devoted to colonoscopies, known as the Colonoscopy Center of Excellence.
The Colonoscopy Center of Excellence is focused 100% on helping to prevent colon cancer through increasing awareness for screening tests like colonoscopies. The doctors at the Colonoscopy Center of Excellence are also hoping to educate people, embark on a polyp detection program, and educate local physicians of every specialty on the importance of colon cancer screenings.
This is a joint venture of the Colorectal Surgery and Gastroenterology Departments at La Peer Health Systems. The goal being to spread the message that early detection is everything in the fight against colon cancer and that the most powerful tool for diagnosing colon cancer is a traditional colonoscopy.
“Colon cancer is the number two cause of all cancer-related death, but early detection is the key to preventing colon cancer,” said Dr. Ari Nowain, co-director of the Colonoscopy Center of Excellence. “If more people knew that, think of how many lives that would save.”
These doctors want everyone to schedule their first colonoscopy by the age of 50, African Americans should be screened at age 45, and those who have a family history of colon cancer should be screened 10 years before the age that family member was diagnosed.
This new website is focused on providing information like that and more. There is another purpose to the Colonoscopy Center of Excellence. A major part of La Peer Health Systems’ mission is to provide the highest quality in patient care. That involves giving back to the community and performing cutting edge medical research. The Colonoscopy Center of Excellence accomplishes both of those goals by donating a portion of the proceeds to the Colon Cancer Alliance.
The Colon Cancer Alliance is a non-profit patient advocacy organization dedicated to increasing screening rates and survivorship of colon cancer. The organization also offers aid to colon cancer patients and their caretakers. Recognizing that early diagnosis is crucial to surviving colon cancer, CCA dedicates itself to raising awareness about the disease and the need to undergo regular colonoscopies after age 50.
“Medical research breakthroughs happen every day,” said Dr. Shahab Medizadeh, co-director of the Colonoscopy Center of Excellence. “One day, organizations like the Colon Cancer Alliance will help us win more battles against this deadly disease.”
The Colonoscopy Center of Excellence is headed up by its two co-directors, Shahab Mehdizadeh, MD and Ari Nowain, MD. There are 11 other equally talented doctors at the Colonoscopy Center of Excellence - seven of which are gastroenterologists, the remaining four colorectal surgeons. The gastroenterologists include Siamak Tabib, MD; Payman Khorrami, MD; Mark Davidson, MD; Leo Treyzon, MD, MS; Peyton Berookim, MD; Maurice Elihu, MD; and Farshid Sam Rahbar, MD. The colorectal surgeons are Eiman Firoozmand, MD; Liza Capiendo, MD; Stephen Yoo, MD; and Gary Hoffman, MD.
