Delray Recovery Center is a professional treatment facility that focuses on addiction treatment and offers individualized treatment programs for those suffering from drug addiction, alcoholism, eating disorders, and co-occurring disorders that include depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder. The Florida-based center has introduced a new five-phase step down model for addiction treatment that employs tenants of other widely used and successful treatment models while allowing the program to be adapted to meet an individual’s specific needs.
Delray Recovery Center’s new five-phase step down model includes the five phases of detoxification, partial hospitalization, inpatient residential treatment, outpatient treatment and the final phase of sober living. While the framework remains consistent, each phase can be adjusted to suit individual progress and requirements while remaining true to a format designed for success.
“Our five-phase step down model offers a strong foundation while allowing individuals to focus on specific issues that hinder a sustained life of recovery,” said Dr. Darryl Appleton, Delray Recovery Center’s medical director and triple-board certified psychiatrist.
The National Institute on Drug Abuse stresses no single type of treatment is either appropriate or effective for everyone. A successful program will match treatment methods and services with a person’s characteristics, specific problems and overall needs. The second and third phases of Delray’s five-phase step down model are where individualized plans are developed.
“Our first phase of detoxification in a medically safe and supervised environment is a vital step before the recovery process can begin,” said Delray Recovery Center Clinical Director Cheryl Young. “Although focusing on the substance abuse is the first phase or our program, it is only the beginning. Part of what makes our program successful is its ability to address the wide scope of issues that created, stem from, and sustained an individual’s addiction.”
Effective treatment programs go far beyond alcohol and drug addiction, NIDA says. They must also address the multiple medical, social, psychological issues associated with addition as well as any legal or vocational problems. The five-phase model addresses these issues with behavioral therapies. Literature out of the Mayo Clinic note behavioral therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, are an effective way for individuals to learn to cope with drug and alcohol cravings while offering strategies to avoid substance use as well as prevent relapse. The final phases of the five-phase model allow individuals to take everything they learned in treatment and apply it to their daily lives.
“We continue to offer support and resources after individuals leave our facility,” said Delray Primary Therapist Christopher Pasquale. “Helping people transition into a sober life is one more way our program helps ensure a successful recovery going forward.”
