LJ McVey, the founder of Prometheus Meditations and Summer Camp is excited about her first crowd-funding campaign. "I am thrilled about having the opportunity to help more and more people, especially young people." LJ states that the goal of the meditation series is to give people who are looking to change their lives for the better helpful structure and guidance. As she is fond of saying, "There's no need for a guru. You just have to do the work." Her program shows you just how to do that work.
LJ came up with the idea for the meditation series and summer camp after helping many young adults work through tough times in their lives. "Graduates (a term she adopted from her years as a dorm parent) kept telling me that I should put something together. They kept asking for more help even after they had grown-up and moved on. They were looking for a refresher course, in a sense. A way to keep focused on the techniques that I taught them years before."
The first stage in the meditation series, Prometheus Meditation: Kindling, provides the basic foundation for stress-relief and self-examination. Kindling and the Prometheus name refer to what LJ calls "the fire within." "Kindling teaches you how to tap into the resources we all have within ourselves. Instead of a demi-god giving fire to humankind, you tap into your own ability to deal with whatever challenges life throws at you."
LJ developed a way to distill her experience into a simple, easy-to-follow series of guided meditations. The series and the summer camp are complementary aspects of the same process. The meditations can be done on their own while the (eventual) summer camp is intended as a "crash course in responsible living." The camp will feature a rigorous daily schedule of meditation, exercise, nutrition and physical labor.
Prometheusmeditations.com is the website for the Prometheus Meditation Series. LJ McVey is the founder of Prometheus Meditation. She has worked with young adults for over twenty years helping them to improve their lives by creating and maintaining positive habits of both mind and body. Meditation, self-examination and developing a work ethic are her three areas of focus. It's not what happens to you in life, it's how you respond.
