Swisslog Healthcare Solutions(HCS) is proud to announce it has achieved LEED® Silver Certification for Existing Buildings at its North American headquarters facility. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification is the most widely recognized green-building program in the world, transforming buildings and communities in all 50 states and 135 countries. LEED-certified companies demonstrate leadership in corporate responsibility and sustainability through reducing carbon emissions, using less energy and contributing to a healthier work environment.
“LEED certification is the culmination of two years’ effort in sustainability projects at Swisslog,” notes Mike Hoganson, President of Swisslog HCS North America. “Our gains in operational efficiency and cost reduction provide a sound business justification for the stewardship programs we have in place as a result of our participation in the LEED program.” Achieving LEED Certification is the first milestone in an ongoing sustainability plan at Swisslog HCS.
According to the US Green Building Council (USGBC®), the Swisslog facility is in good company. Currently, LEED certification of existing buildings outpaces new buildings – accounting for 53% of total square footage certified last year in the top 10 states rated by the USGBC. LEED Silver Certifications grew 33% for Existing Buildings in those states in 2012. Colorado continues to be a leader in per capita, LEED-certified square footage – ranked third in the country – with 10.6 million ft2 certified in 2012. (Source: USGBC.)
