Conventus to Host Complimentary Webinar Helping New Jersey Physicians Avoid HIPAA Compliance Audits & Costly Fines

Share Article

Late last year, Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary agreed to pay a HIPAA fine of $1.5 million (OCR Complaint No. 10-111355) that could have been largely avoided by meeting a little-known requirement of the Security Rule involving self assessment of security & privacy measures*. To help New Jersey physicians, avoid similar fines, Conventus NJ is offering a complimentary Webinar to members and qualified non-members covering how to avoid compliance audits and meet assessment requirements.

This year, the federal government and designated state-level organizations are expected to start more aggressively looking for evidence of HIPAA violations and non-compliance of Security Rule requirements, including one focusing on mandatory self-assessment. As a service to both its members and the New Jersey physician community, Conventus Inter-Insurance Exchange, a provider of professional liability insurance and risk management services, will offer a free webinar on February 27th, 2013 to help increase understanding on how to avoid audits (and the associated fines) and how to meet self-assessment requirements.

The webinar -- currently offered during the lunch hour and then again in the early evening hours -- will feature Stevie M. Davidson, President & CEO of Health Informatics Consulting. Ms. Davidson has significant experience helping healthcare organizations improve revenue, processes, and adopt electronic health record technologies. She is a Governor-appointed member of the New Jersey State Health Information Technology Commission and Co-Chair of its Privacy and Security Policy Sub-Committee. She is also a member of the Ambulatory Meaningful Use Center of Excellence Work Group Committee of HIMSS National.
