Dogs are said to be man’s best friend. For the Harris family Sam was more than a friend, he became a testament of God’s faithfulness and grace. In the new book, The Miracle of Sam, Michael and Linda Harris tell a heartwarming true story of how a golden retriever coy dog touched their hearts and changed their lives.
The year 2008 had been tough for the Harris family. They suffered heavy financial damage and the loss of their golden retriever, Sarah, to valley fever. While Linda was eager to find a new friend in the local humane society, Michael was not too enthusiastic about the idea. All that changed when he saw Sam. He recalls the first time he saw the golden retriever,
“I was at a personal low when I first met Sam. He looked sadly over the small gate at the humane society kennel, and stood on his back feet, leaning against the gate as we reviewed the various options available. He never barked or whined, and was conspicuously silent... He was in for his 4th visit to the kennel since his birth... I think we both were ready for a change to the good. It goes without saying that we kind of took to each other, and he came home with us.”
Sam, who had spent eighteen months moving in and out of different homes and owners that did not show him any affection, had finally found a family to call his own. In the same way, Linda and Michael had found grace and joy in the new addition to their family.
“This wonderful gift from God, at 18 months old, took me out of my severe depression and gave me a new and positive outlook on life,” Michael shares.
Touching and beautifully told, The Miracle of Sam is not only a chronicle of a lovable pup’s journey from kennel to the hearts of the Harris family; it is an unforgettable story of hope and of extraordinary friendship that comes from unexpected places.
