eCornell and Cornell University report today that almost one month after the launch of Marketing the Hospitality Brand through New Media: Social, Mobile & Search, the first free online hospitality marketing course that trains hospitality professionals in new media skills, the school is seeing better than expected enrollment, with registration rates almost 200 times greater than any prior course launch. This course is uniquely focused on training hospitality marketing professionals in social media, mobile and search marketing. It combines the most effective elements of a world-class Ivy League classroom with the flexibility of an online learning environment.

“Hospitality marketing professionals are increasingly looking to new media channels to build awareness of their brand. This requires building an expertise in social media, mobile and search marketing,” said Chris Proulx, President and CEO of eCornell. “It is clear from the overwhelming positive response that we are meeting a need in the market and we’re glad to offer the industry this online course for free. Notably, we’re also seeing students register from over 139 countries, which is also a signal to us that the global hospitality market needs access to a high quality, focused online training.”

The free course is authored by professors Rob Kwortnik and Bill Carroll at Cornell’s world-famous School of Hotel Administration and builds on research and real-life social, mobile and new media strategies deployed by hospitality organizations worldwide. eCornell courses are “instructor-facilitated” to help guide participants through challenging, real-world exercises with practical on-the-job application. Classes enable learners to be immersed in learning that also fosters collaboration, interaction and networking among their cohorts. The classes are self-paced and 100 percent online. Once started, students have three weeks to complete the course.

The course is geared towards hospitality professionals working in sales, marketing and financial roles. Students who complete the free course will receive a letter of completion from Cornell University. Upon completion of the course, there is also the option to continue on and earn a certificate in New Media Strategies for Revenue Growth from Cornell University.
