Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) February 04, 2013
Drexel University Online, a premier provider of Internet-based higher education, and the Drexel University School of Education are pleased to announce the creation of the School Principal Certificate program.
“Our School Principal Certificate allows educators to gain keen insight into school principalship from Drexel’s world class faculty,” said Eric Hagan, senior program director at Drexel University Online. “Upon completion of the certificate, candidates who meet all state requirements will be recommended for the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Pennsylvania Administrative Certificate, Principal K-12 license.”
Available entirely online, the School Principal Certificate is designed to produce school leaders who are knowledgeable about current theories and strategies in leadership and educational change. The components of the program’s conceptual bedrock include heuristic diagnostic learning, intelligent use of emotions in interpersonal skills of leadership, creative problem solving, and learning technologies.
“Drexel’s School Principal Certificate enables outstanding teachers holding a Master’s degree the opportunity to gain the practical skills and knowledge to become effective school administrators,” said Dr. Allen Grant, director of Educational Administration for the School of Education. “The flexibility of the online delivery allows busy professionals the opportunity to properly balance their work, home, and educational commitments.”
The online School Principal Certificate program is led by Grant, who has more than 20 years of educational experience, including 10 years as an early childhood teacher. Grant has held leadership positions with the Louisiana Department of Education and the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. His research interests center around emerging technologies, global studies, and leadership development.
In addition to the School Principal Certificate, Drexel University Online and the School of Education have unveiled a set of new professional development certificates for those students who have a desire for a particular skill set but are unable to commit to a degree program immediately. The topics of these certificates include creativity and innovation, educational policy, evaluation and assessment, leadership in educational settings, learning technologies, and urban education.
“Not only are we offering a set of new certificates to diversify an educator’s skills and credentials, we are making it easier for them to transition to a master’s program,” said William Lynch, dean of the School of Education. “Credits from up to four completed certificates can be applied to the Master of Science in Education Improvement and Transformation.”
The School Principal and professional development certificates are available starting this spring. For more information on these online programs or to enroll, please visit http://www.drexel.com.
