Descendants of the team that were the first to summit Mt. McKinley in 1913, will attempt the same climb on June 7th 2013, bearing a message of achievement to young Alaska Natives. Young Alaskans will be able to follow the expedition live by interacting online with team members, tracking progress via GPS and watching video-webisodes produced during the climb.
You are invited to meet the team who will climb in their relatives’ footsteps at the Denali Centennial Climb Launch Event, Tuesday, Feb.5th:

-Movie Trailer: 'The Untold Legend', Denali 2013 Centennial Climb.
-Brief talks from family members about their relatives’ remarkable 1913 achievement, the significance of the Centennial Climb, and how this expedition and the story of the first Denali summit will inspire Alaskan youth.
-One on one interview opportunities, and visuals available on site.
Denali Centennial Climb Expedition Team Members: Dana Wright (great-grandnephew of Walter Harper, the 21-year old Athabascan who first summitted Denali), Ken Karstens and Ray Schuenemann (great-grandsons of the 1913 expedition co-leader Harry Karstens), Daniel Hopkins (great-great-nephew of Hudson Stuck, 1913 expedition co-leader & Archdeacon of The Yukon), Mark Lattime (The Episcopal Bishop of Alaska).
Also in Attendance: Diana Campbell (granddaughter of John Fredson, a then 16-year old Athabascan who lived off the land alone for nearly a month, while caring for the expedition’s sled dogs and base camp), Harper family members, Elia Saikaly (Filmmaker/FindingLife Founder), Tim Cline (IDEA Director).
The climb has been endorsed by the National Congress of American Indians and the Alaska State Board of Education. The story of the first summit of Denali remains very much untold. The Denali Centennial Climb will change this by bringing this incredible story to young people across Alaska and North America. The expedition will be presented by FindingLife. FindingLife combines adventure, education and technology to today’s youth to create positive change.
