Canadian company Remsoft, a leading provider of advanced analytics, modeling and spatial optimization solutions, will be presenting at this year’s FORSYS Conference: Decision Support Systems (DSS) for Sustainable Forest Management (SFM), in Umeå, Sweden, April 24-26, 2013. The last of three, this year’s conference will bring together user and developer expertise from more than 30 countries. Leading thinkers from academia, government and industry will share knowledge and discuss their ideas with the objective of establishing a comprehensive representation of the challenges and opportunities of using DSS to guide SFM decision-making in Europe and worldwide.

Mr. Doug Jones, Vice President of Forestry, will be presenting “Integrated Planning – A Comprehensive View” at the two-day conference. The talk will provide an overview of integrated business planning using advanced analytics, optimization in particular, to address SFM planning challenges and the ways in which integrated planning can make a real impact on both sustainability and the bottom line.

“Sustainable Forest Management is a complex challenge everywhere we go in the world,” says Mr. Jones. “Every country and organization is unique because their forests, SFM regulations and organizational focus is unique. And at the same time there are many consistencies across the globe. The challenge lies in finding solutions that balance these issues. That is our focus at Remsoft.”

The main objective of the conference is to explore how forest DSSs can become more efficient in tackling all aspects of SFM by involving stakeholder participation from all levels within the industry – from forest policy analysis all the way to a value-added product.

“It’s going to be a very interesting conference with many of the world’s authority on SFM gathered under one roof,” continues Mr. Jones. “I’m looking forward to seeing old colleagues and meeting new ones to talk about DSS’ use in forestry and where it is heading.”
