Marlin Steel Wire Products LLC has been honored with a Metalforming Pioneer Award for 2013. The Precision Metalforming Association Educational Foundation (PMAEF), in partnership with Metalforming magazine and the Manufacturing Institute, presented the award to recognize excellence in metal forming.
Marlin Steel of Baltimore, MD was joined by Diemasters Manufacturing Inc. of Elk Grove Village, IL and Eclipse Manufacturing Co. of Sheboygan, WI in being honored in the award’s third year of existence. The program is funded through a grant from the Hitachi Foundation, which the Japan-based global corporation Hitachi Ltd. Created in 1985 to support and demonstrate commitment to economic growth in the United States.
“For the metal forming industry, it’s like major league baseball’s Cy Young award,” said Drew Greenblatt, president of Marlin Steel. “We’re greatly honored by the recognition.”
Marlin built material handling containers almost completely from steel wire for more than 40 years from its founding in 1968 until two years ago when it added sheet metal capabilities. Marlin invested $3.5 million in new equipment, including a laser, punch and press brake from Trumpf, the largest maker of fabricating equipment and industrial lasers in North America. Sheet metal container and forms now make up roughly one-third of the company’s income. Total revenue reached a record $5 million for Marlin last year, its seventh consecutive year of revenue growth.
Among other honors during the past year, Marlin was named to Inc. magazine’s “5,000” list of the fastest growing private companies in the United States. It ranked as the 162nd fastest growing manufacturer. Marlin was also named to the “Inner City 100” by the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City, which recognizes economic vitality in urban areas. Marlin also was recognized for its quality with the ISO 9001: 2008 emblem in accord with the International Organization for Standardization.
