Online Bed Quilt Responds to NECN Article Reporting February is the Worst Month for Sleep

In response to an article published on NECN claiming that February is the worst month for sleep, mattress store Online Bed Quilt urges people to update sleep products to make them feel more comfortable in the cold winter months and advises people on how to find the best mattress possible.

On February 6, Online Bed Quilt, a leading mattress store, responds to an article posted by NECN, which reports that February is the worst month for sleep.

The article, posted by NECN, said a new study administered by the Great British Sleep Survey found that it takes people a longer amount of time to fall asleep in February when compared to March. Results showed that over 21,000 adults in the U.K. reported taking an extra eight minutes to go to sleep and spend an extra 10 minutes awake at night during the month of February.

But why? The article said one-third more people reported having a lower amount of energy. The survey discovered that women were most affected by low energy levels. Experts involved with the survey attributed this to longer nights and darker days common in winter months.

Justin Maas, a representative from mattress store Online Bed Quilt, said February is one of the coldest months in the Northern Hemisphere. “Temperatures in the U.K. are similar to temperatures here in New York,” he said. “February is extremely cold and the days are very short, so it’s hard to adjust. It gets darker earlier in the day and it confuses the body. People obviously aren’t going to fall asleep at 5 p.m., even if it’s dark out.”

According to the article, 68 percent of those surveyed said they had low energy in February, as compared to March. The article suggested some good sleep habits to improve your sleep. Some of these include avoiding the use of technology before bed, limiting caffeine or food intake after a certain time, maintaining a strict sleep schedule and making sure your room is at a comfortable temperature.

Maas said these sleep practices can help, but it’s also a good idea to make sure your bed is right for your body. “Those people suffering from low energy or lack of sleep should also look to improve their bed products,” he said. “They should talk to professionals about finding the best mattress possible for their body type. If your body is more comfortable and fully supported, you have a better chance of getting more rest and having more energy.”
