The search to find the champion installation team in The FIT Show’s Master Fitter Challenge in association with FENSA is well underway as the assessors have begun the difficult process of selecting the eight participants for the finals to held at the International Centre Telford.
The entry bag for The Master Fitter Challenge has been substantial as applicants from across the UK compete to take away the first-placed cash prize of £5,000 and the honour of being crowned ‘Master Fitter’; a title they can proudly boast on all company literature.
The final stages of the competition, held on April 16th and 17th, will see eight of the country’s best fitting teams go head-to-head in a series of installation tasks in front of an enthusiastic and knowledgeable crowd. For those competing being cheered whilst fitting windows, doors and a conservatory roof will make for an interesting experience!
Event assessors GQA Qualifications – the long-standing awarding organisation who have specialised in glass qualifications for over 20 years – have the tough task of evaluating those who have met the entry criteria before drawing up a final shortlist.
Head of the judging panel, Technical Officer/External Verifier at GQA Qualifications, Sean Hayes, explains how the contenders will be whittled down and assessed in the final stages:
“Successful competition entrants will be visited on site by a GQA Approved Assessor and observed ‘in action’. Following this stage, our assessors will review the reports and decide the eight finalists.
“When they reach The FIT Show the Finalists must then complete any two of the following; removal and replacement of a window, installation of a domestic door and the installation of a conservatory roof. In addition, they must also identify a number of faults and problems with a door installation.”
Sean has provided the following advice for entrants hoping to achieve ‘Master Fitter’ status:
“The competition is a test of skill and technical ability under pressure, and against the clock though teams will not compete directly against each other as a race.”
The eventual winner of The Master Fitter Challenge will be announced at The FIT Show Gala Dinner hosted on the night of April 17th with a total prize fund of £10,000. And with all eight finalists in the audience the tension will be palpable.
