Executive Symposium for Post Secondary Providers

March 21 and 22 - Austin, Texas

Our team decided it was time to establish a forum where we could discuss our commonalities and share best practices.

AUSTIN, Texas (PRWEB) February 11, 2013

A symposium scheduled for March 21 and 22 will provide executives and top officials from communities that serve the intellectually challenged a rare opportunity to come together and discuss common topics. The Executive Leadership Symposium for Post Secondary Providers will give executive directors from across the United States a forum for exploring common concerns and best practices.

The Marbridge Foundation in Manchaca, Texas, will host the event. It has provided residential care and life skills training to adults with intellectual disabilities for 60 years. Over time, the organization’s leadership has developed policies and practices based on knowledge gleaned from decades of experience as well as professional standards. Many other communities like Marbridge across the nation have done the same. Yet few opportunities have existed for the executives of these communities to gather together to share information and ideas.

When he was appointed president of Marbridge in 2009, James Stacey, and others on his management team, visited many post-secondary programs in the U.S. in order to learn more about their operations in an effort to find common ground.

“In our conversations with the executives, it became apparent that there are a host of topics and concerns that we share,” said Stacey. “Our team decided it was time to establish a forum where we could discuss our commonalities and share best practices, and the idea of hosting a symposium was born.”

The two-day event will feature expert speakers on a wide range of topics, from a review of the current state of care for the intellectually disabled in the U.S.; to issues involved with fund-raising; determining adequate financial life planning for residents; changes in tax obligations and regulations for non-profits; as well as best practices in managing separation anxiety and other behavioral issues. The symposium will include adequate time for networking and includes an open forum session to provide opportunities to introduce topics for future symposiums.

Attendance space is limited for the March event. For more information on the Executive Leadership Symposium for Post-Secondary Providers, contact Scott McAvoy, vice president of operations for Marbridge, at 512-282-1144, or smcavoy(at)marbridge(dot)org.
