Located in sunny San Diego, Fashion Valley is the region’s biggest attraction. In fact, according to Francine Miley, Director of Marketing and Business Development, Fashion Valley’s visitor count exceeds that of the San Diego Zoo, Sea World and the San Diego Padres baseball team combined. Therefore, when Simon decided to renovate the 1.7 million square feet of shopping space, it made sense to add a soft playground. Miley looked to PLAYTIME, LLC to create something special.
“We have over 20 million visitors a year and many of them are families, so that’s a lot of children,” says Miley.
Owned by Simon Property Group, Fashion Valley asked PLAYTIME to create a custom, outdoor play area with an underwater theme. PLAYTIME is the global provider of unique, interactive, healthy play areas and playground equipment for indoor, outdoor and water play.
“This is an outdoor center, so our play area has foamy, fun floors, an orca, an octopus and all kinds of aquatic sea creatures,” says Miley.
Perhaps best of all, the soft play area is sponsored by Geppetto’s Toys, a beloved local toy store with eight California locations. Geppetto’s specializes in toys that inspire creative play for the entire family.
“Geppettos’ is a traditional, classic toy store,” says Miley. “They carry hand-crafted, educational toys. They are the perfect sponsor for Fashion Valley’s play area.”

Employees of the toy store even visit the play area on a regular basis to demonstrate and test new toys with the children.
