A site to see, Nico Colomb the youth director at Afterguard, will be wearing a Tux. Guests will be treated to their first glass of wine, champagne, or locally crafted beer, (those under 21 get soda, juice or waters). Thereafter, a no-host bar provides beer, wine and non-alcohol refreshments.
Guests should bring their smart phones or can use an on-site computer, provided by 'Oakland Technical Institute', to keep updated when someone tops their bid on a treasured prize in the silent auction. During the silent auction and social hour, guest can enjoy the live performance of Jazz pianist Gunther Hofmann with flute accompaniment.
At 8 p.m., guests will take a seat to enjoy an 'All You Can Eat' Crab Feed' brought to the gala by local fishermen. Dessert is hand crafted Ice Cream provided by 'Tucker's Ice Cream' of Alameda. As the initial clatter of dishes quiet, five honoree awards will be given to Oakland Street Academy Principal Patricia Myrick-Williams, Math and Science Teacher Jeremy Cavagnolo, stalwart volunteer and retired OPD Marvin Jackson, and two deserving youth from the program.
At 8:30 p.m. the stage, podium, and big screen are given over to Peter Rusch. Peter has a stunning multimedia presentation to bring all who attend up to speed on the momentous events bringing the world's eyes to the Bay Area's sailing grounds. Practice sails will begin as soon as March 2013.
After the Q&A session on the America's Cup, the live Auction takes off, and this fun evening ends with the live performance of the voice of Sinatra by Steve Swan backed by a trio led by Kelly Park.
