Florida Hope Tour 2013 to Cover 1,000 Miles

Paraplegic cyclist Rich Dixon has embarked on a two-month, 1,000-mile hand cycling tour through Florida to raise awareness and funds to support Convoy of Hope’s work to feed impoverished children around the world.

Rich will be riding through South Florida including West Palm, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale and Miami areas Thursday, February 7th through Sunday, February 10th.
Dixon calls The Florida Hope Tour 2013 the “continuation of a dream” that began in 2011 when he took a hand cycle trip along the Mississippi River that started in Itasca, Minn., and ended in New Orleans, La., raising $60,000 for Convoy of Hope.

“It’s not about what you can’t do, it’s about what you can do,” says Dixon, when describing his journey. “We’re capable of so much more than we believe we’re capable of.”

Dixon estimates he’s cycled more than 25,000 miles since he began hand cycling in 1999. His paralysis is a result of injuries from a fall while putting up Christmas lights more than two decades ago.

“We’re proud to be partnering with Rich on this tour and recognize him as a remarkable example of what it means to provide hope to the less fortunate,” says Hal Donaldson, president of Convoy of Hope. “We’ll be following along closely as he makes this journey across Florida.”

Dixon was recently featured in St. Augustine’s First Coast News broadcast. Watch the coverage here:
