“There are two kinds of people in the world: those who have a regular backup system—and those who will."

Spresso is a software application that manages project digital assets (files and folders) as a series of version backups. Spresso is designed to be extremely easy to use and intuitive (especially for occasional use). Perhaps this quote of a future Spresso user says it all:
“I am constantly trying to be organized with my work and have gotten better but still run into problems. I've definitely learned to make V1, V2, etc versions of my project to send to the client but that's not where I have issues. Its when I think everything is all approved and I make a ‘Final’ folder and move my ‘asset’ folder and all the other folders into it as well then they come back with a change, now I have a ‘Final’ folder within that one with Final_V1 and Final_V2 (because that makes a whole lot of sense...) Plus, assets get lost - missing links to media and graphics used in projects that I have to hunt down, or maybe I accidentally flattened a version in Photoshop and no longer have all the layers... Needless to say, the headaches are endless.” Michael V.
The time to plan for version control is definitely not after making some disastrous changes to a graphics, Web site, software development, or publication project. Spresso helps manage project work as it is being updated. Spresso acts as a simple collaboration tool by packaging up all project assets (files and folders) to be shared with other Spresso users. This is especially useful when working with virtual workers, editors, reviewers, and customers.
Anyone involved with computer-based projects that needs a simple way to organize and backup their work as versions will find Spresso indispensable: photographers, graphic designers, project managers, contract administrators, Web site designers, authors, software developers, ... just about everyone!
There are three variations of Spresso planned:
- Spresso:Decaf (to be available at no cost): Limited features: total project size can't exceed 100 MB, backups can only be saved to an internal disk drive, and no more than nine version backups can be made to a single active project. Decaf can be used forever--there is no 14-day or 30-day trial period!
- Spresso:Americano (expected to be sold for under $15): Full featured versioning that has can store very large projects (up to 4 GB total file size), virtually no limit to the number of version backups, and project assets can be saved to an internal or removable disk drive.
- Spresso:Cappuccino (expected to be sold for under $50): Same as Americano that can save backups to major cloud repositories (like carbonite, box.net, and dropbox) as well as to your internal or removable disk drives.
Spresso licensing is unique. Spresso can be installed on all of the personal computer systems a licensed end user owns (either Mac OS X or Windows). Leading Software Maniacs recognizes that modern-day software licensing that restricts usage on no more than one or two computers is totally unfair.
Spresso is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2013. Leading Software Maniacs is looking for early adopters and those interested in helping fund the final stages of development and product launch with #Kickstarter.
