On February 9, 2013, social media agency fishbat sends kudos to the Golden State Warriors for their activity within the Twitter-verse. The Warriors have shown their influence with social media after a “social media night” victory wearing jerseys with Twitter handles printed on them.

According to Sports Illustrated’s online publication The Point Forward, the Warriors, who donned warm-up shirts which displayed Twitter handles and hashtags as part of “Social Media Night,” express their Silicon Valley influence with a 113-93 win on Saturday February 2, 2013.

The Point Forward reports that “the blue-and-gold shooting shirts featured the team’s @Warriors handle with the hashtag #LETSGOWARRIORS on the front. The players’ handles appeared on the back of the shirt.”

The article states that 156,000 followers make up the Golden State’s team Twitter account while players like guard Stephen Curry has more than 440,000 Twitter followers, David Lee, the team’s All-Star forward, has more than 82,000 followers, and coach Mark Jackson has over 75,000 followers.

According to The Point Forward, “Warriors players will be the first in the NBA to wear shooting shirts featuring their personal twitter handles.” The article notes that the Warriors play in Oakland’s Oracle Arena, which is less than 20 miles from Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters.

“As a social media agency, we at fishbat can sincerely speak for this team’s dominance of the professional basketball social media industry,” comments fishbat COO Scott Darrohn. “It will only be a matter of time before all teams within the NBA begin wearing social media inspired jerseys.” Darrohn adds, “Social media has certainly shown its influence in the sporting industry and we applaud the Warriors for promoting their social media page in such a clever way.”
