The community garden is the perfect complement to the academic work of Asbury Seminary. We have envisioned it as a living laboratory for creation care and community building, and we look forward to the lessons it grows.
Wilmore, KY (PRWEB) February 09, 2013
Asbury Theological Seminary will break ground on a community garden adjacent to Kalas Village, the seminary’s new family housing complex, on Monday, February 11, 2013, at 4:30 pm. Dr. Timothy Tennent, President, and Dr. Marilyn Elliott, Vice President for Community Formation, will preside over the ceremony and will be joined by the children of Kalas Village.
Asbury Seminary was awarded a two-year $18,000 grant by the Dora Tes Basileas Foundation to establish the community garden. The raised bed garden will feature 10-15 large common plots surrounded by 25 smaller individual plots that will be tended by members of the seminary community, including students, faculty and staff.
Tennent said, “The community garden is the perfect complement to the academic work of Asbury Seminary. We have envisioned it as a living laboratory for creation care and community building, and we look forward to the lessons it grows.”
The ceremony will culminate in the naming of the community garden. Asbury Seminary’s Office of Global Community Formation hosted a naming contest throughout January. The winner will be announced at the ceremony and receive a basket of gardening supplies. Refreshments will be served.
