GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (PRWEB) February 11, 2013
The Grand Rapids Children's Museum is expanding its Corporate Recess programs and partnering with business, education and community leaders to organize a major Symposium on Play March 1 at the Eberhard Center and a March 2 Gala focused on Celebrating the Way We Play.
To keep the conversation going, GRCM is also using social and digital media to ask questions like "What can you do with a spoon?'' showing how Michiganders can use everyday items to boost their play and creativity levels. Post your ideas to Twitter #PlayGR.
"GRCM is a relentless advocate of the benefits of play - not only for the critical thinking, behavioral, and interpersonal skills it gives developing children, but for what it can do for all of us,'' said Executive Director Robert Dean. "Play has an important role in business innovation, and in teams working effectively together."

GRCM is partnering with Grand Valley State University and Aquinas College and others to organize the growing efforts.
As the hours of free play have dropped in recent years, obesity has risen while test scores and creativity have fallen, argues symposium keynote speaker Darell Hammond. Hammond is founder of Kaboom, a nationally-known nonprofit focused on saving play in communities.
"The time is right for this message, and the business sector is particularly in need of hearing it," said Stephen Scholler, Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC.
