Rockville, Md. (PRWEB) February 13, 2013
Business managers of hospital operating rooms will have the opportunity to sharpen skills in financial analysis, technology decision making, cost management and at an intensive workshop April 7 to 9 in Denver.
Among topics to be covered are managing the revenue cycle for surgery, using data to drive sound decision making, guiding teams in the purchase of surgical products and equipment, and working with nurse managers and physicians to increase the safety and efficiency of patient care during surgery.
The attendees will hear from experts and will work in hands-on sessions to learn about tools for measuring the OR’s business processes, explore the use of financial indicators, and define effective methods for identifying cost savings. Workshop leaders will also provide instruction on financial forecasting, budgeting, and trending and offer guidance on strategic planning for surgical services.
The workshop is intended for OR business managers from all hospital settings who are involved in business decisions affecting surgery’s economics, technology, and program development.
OR business managers are critical to the financial health of surgical departments, which generate up to 60% of revenue for hospitals. Over half (55%) of surgical departments with 10 or more ORs have a business manager.
The OR business manager’s role has become increasingly important as hospitals face tighter budgets and plan to care of many new patients who will have health coverage under health care reform. OR business managers perform financial analysis and reporting, manage the department’s budget, oversee billing for surgery, and guide decisions for the purchase of surgical supplies and equipment, among other responsibilities.
