The Antarctic continent is known as the coldest place on earth. Many consider it too cold for long-term human habitation. If Heat-line systems can provide reliable freeze protection there, just imagine how well they perform everywhere else.

Heat-Line (http://www.heatline.com), a Canadian owned developer and manufacturer of innovative freeze protection solutions for water pipes and water systems, has recently announced that their advanced water pipe freeze protection systems are being installed at a new camp in Antarctica where the average winter temperature is minus 34.4 degrees Celsius. In a remote location in coastal Antarctica, the new camp will install multiple Heat-Line freeze protection systems in numerous shelters and buildings throughout the property, in order to protect pipes from freezing. The systems are being installed to ensure a dependable and essential water supply and to make certain waste drainage pipes remain operational. For this project, more than 3,000 feet of CARAPACE and Paladin/EXT5R will be used.
CARAPACE is a high performance, energy-efficient water pipe freeze protection product that was developed as a reliable and economical alternative when blasting or excavation to bury pipes is impossible or cost-prohibitive. Utilizing conductive polymer self-regulating technology, all of the water pipe systems are fully insulated with ¾ inch thick closed cell polyethylene insulation sleeves and have thermostat controls for energy efficiency. Philmac fittings are used on all CARAPACE pipes because of their superior quality and ease of use. As there is no need to blast or excavate below the frost line, CARAPACE offers significant savings in time and labour, and is especially suitable for use in sub-polar and circumpolar regions. The product can be cut to length to simplify installation onsite.
Paladin/EXT5R heating cable systems are designed for long term external applications for existing pipes, such as sewage pipes, forced mains and pressurized systems. Like other Heat-Line products, EXT5R employs self-regulating heating cable technology for optimum performance and reliable protection. Supplied job-ready, the EXT5R is applied longitudinally on pipes. When combined with additional insulation and thermostat, energy savings can be further enhanced.
“We are very excited to have our products up and running in Antarctica. We know that our freeze protection systems will perform well,” says Lorne Heise, CEO of Heat-Line Freeze Protect Systems. “Heat-Line products are widely used across the Globe, including places like Ellesmere Island in the Canadian Arctic, and in other areas of the world where temperatures dip well below freezing. The Antarctic continent is known as the coldest place on earth, recording the lowest temperature ever reported of minus 89.4 degrees Celsius. Many consider it too cold for long-term human habitation. If Heat-line systems can provide reliable freeze protection there, just imagine how well they perform everywhere else,” states Heise.
