Messiah Lutheran Classical Academy’s (MLCA) 5th-8th grade students scored well at the annual Metroplex Lutheran Schools Math Contest hosted at Prince of Peace Christian School in Carrollton. Several schools participate each year in the math contest. Four students from each grade level were chosen to represent MLCA in the competition.
A 1st Place ribbon was awarded to a fifth grade boy in the Mental Math event; a 2nd Place ribbon was awarded to a sixth grade boy in the Mental Math event; and MLCA’s fifth grade class as a whole brought home the 3rd Place Trophy for overall participation.
“We want to congratulate all the participants for a wonderful job at the competition. The sixteen students that represented MLCA have made us very proud of their efforts!” commented Principal Ellen Malzahn.
Each year the students qualify to compete by having the top GPAs in their grade level. At MLCA students participate in a math program that builds critical thinking skills and allows for continual practice and assessment, all while having students communicate mathematically to develop their math understanding and skills.
