MHF Services (MHF), a leading provider of packaging, transportation, logistics and technical services, has been awarded a contract by the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) to provide turnkey services in support of WPI’s Leslie C. Wilbur Nuclear Reactor Facility decommissioning project.

The Reactor Facility is situated on WPI’s campus in Worcester, Massachusetts, approximately 40 miles west of Boston. The facility provided graduate and undergraduate students with reactor operating experience and experimental practice in the fields of nuclear engineering, metallurgy, chemistry and physics, as well as irradiation services for other teaching, medical and industrial institutions. WPI discontinued routine operation of the reactor in 2007.

The overall decommissioning project is being managed by TLG Services, Inc., of Bridgewater, CT, WPI’s decommissioning consultant and project manager.

MHF is assisting TLG Services by providing the following services:

•Providing packages and the labor to load the project waste into the packages
•Weighing, handling and moving packages on site
•Loading packages into MHF-provided containers and trucks
•Preparing shipping paperwork including Hazardous Waste Manifests
•Coordinating transportation
•Arranging for processing and disposition of the project waste at an appropriately licensed facility.
