Pan Australian Travel releases its weekly video blog with updates on the Qantas-Emirates Codeshare Deal and other news in travel.
Qantas has started selling tickets to Emirates flights after the interim approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
“They’ve released tickets to full codeshare flights. It’s not looking fantastic if you’re looking to get on Qantas flights with an Emirates codeshare because they didn’t release that many seats and the long layovers for most of their destinations mean flying with Qantas with a stopover in Dubai to Europe isn’t a good option,” said Jake Hower, Managing Director of Pan Australian Travel.
“My tip for this is if you’re looking to fly to Europe with one stop, choose the Emirates flights out of Australia on the codeshare airline. You will still earn frequent flier points. You won’t be able to upgrade if you’re looking to do that on the aircraft, which is a bit of a pity but that’s okay. You’ll get a much better connection to Europe and of course it will mean your travel time is substantially reduced,” he continued.
The video also covered news updates from Virgin Australia and Garuda.
“Now when you redeem Velocity frequent flyer points, you will earn Velocity status credits on those seats that you fly. That is brilliant. Historically there aren’t many airlines that actually provide this. Now even if you’re using free flights or earned flights you will get status points which will go towards raising your T level within the program and giving you more benefits,” said Mr. Hower.
“It hasn’t actually been officially announced, but there is word that Garuda is going to be flying to London direct from Jakarta. That’ll be excellent for somebody looking to fly on a pretty decent airline with a new aircraft at a reasonable price. You’ll potentially be able to fly Melbourne to Jakarta, then Jakarta on to London. It may be another option particularly in business class. They have fantastic flat beds and their fares are really good. Watch this space and we’ll keep you updated on when that’s actually announced,” said Mr. Hower.
