The rise and fall of power often brings an unlikely cast of heroes up through the ranks.
In his new theological crime novel Occasions of Sin, author John Martin Gehl tells a story about an underdog woman solving a homicide case involving police corruption and drug cartels.
“The complications in the story are as convoluted as what we experience in our own lives,” says Gehl. “We witness drama and danger, but we also see love.”
The novel centers on three women and one man as they solve a murder: a Puerto Rican-born police officer, an African-American medical examiner, a young British reporter and a still-believing ex-priest turned psychologist.
Humorous dialogue combines topics like faith, culture and violence with the absurd as the twisted plot unfolds.
A longtime editor of a national publication who has dabbled in a variety of industries, Gehl says he used many of his own unique insights for writing inspiration.
Exposing the motivations behind flawed characters and providing insight into high-risk industries, Occasions of Sin explores sin, redemption and love.
