Welch Healthcare & Retirement Group of Massachusetts will open later this year a new Memory Care Assisted Living Program in Hingham for older adults who have Alzheimer’s disease or a related memory disorder. One in eight Americans has Alzheimer’s disease, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. It is estimated that new cases of the disease will triple by the year 2050, with projections that at that time about 14 million Americans will suffer from Alzheimer’s.
“The program is in response to an overwhelming need for memory care services in a supportive residential setting,” says Richard Welch, president, Welch Healthcare & Retirement Group. Welch adds, “It is important to ensure that individuals with memory disorders receive comprehensive care in an appropriate setting.” Having served older adults and their families on the Massachusetts South Shore for more than 60 years, the Welch family’s new secure unit is designed to offer another option for individuals with memory impairment.
The new Memory Care Assisted Living Program at Allerton House in Hingham, opening in the fall, will feature 13 rental apartments, including 10 studios and three companion suites. Construction will begin soon on the new unit. The program will be located on the Welch Group’s Hingham continuum-of-care campus, which also features traditional assisted living, an adult day memory care program and a rehabilitation and skilled nursing center.
The Assisted Living Memory Care Program will incorporate the latest research, theories and techniques designed to help residents maintain the highest level of independence and the best quality of life. The Memory Care Program at Allerton House will follow the Alzheimer’s Association Habilitation Therapy Methods, emphasizing the engagement of all five senses to promote well-being.
The Allerton House Memory Care Program will provide:
- Specialized, trained staff
- State-of-the-art secure environment
- Meaningful individualized activities
- Resident Assistants available 24-hours a day.
