Operation Appliance Aid is a way for CCHS to give back to veterans and their families. U.S. Army SSG Pam Smith and her family was the first recipient on July 4, 2012.

Cross Country Home Services, Inc. (CCHS), one of the country’s leading providers of home warranty products and maintenance plans, has been recognized with the 2013 Communitas Award in the category of “Making a Difference” for its OPERATION APPLIANCE AID program that provides new appliances, appliance packages and home systems to veteran and military service families in need. The Communitas Awards is an international effort to recognize the spirit of communitas – people helping people, and winners are recognized for excellence in community service and corporate social responsibility.

“CCHS is very proud to be an American company, and our Operation Appliance Aid program reflects the strong patriotic sentiments and appreciation for our veterans felt throughout our company,” said CCHS President Sandra Finn. “The response from the community has been overwhelming, and we are honored to be recognized with this prestigious award for our efforts.”

Operation Appliance Aid was founded in 2012 as a way for CCHS to give back to veterans and their families, and thank them for their service. The company, which has more than 600 employees based in Sunrise, Fla. and Anderson, S.C., recognized the struggles that many veterans have as a result of the disruption caused by active duty or by an injury or disability, and believes that providing a tangible gift in the form of a new major appliance or home system, can bring an immediate sense of relief and improve their everyday lives. CCHS leveraged their partnerships with a large network of independent service providers and major appliance manufacturers, and formed a partnership with the United Way of Broward County to launch the program on the 4th of July. The first donation of a brand new Whirlpool® washer and dryer, refrigerator and stove went to Pembroke Pines resident Pam Smith, of the U.S. Army SSG / E-6 who was injured in the line of duty and is a single mother to a 15-year-old daughter and 5-year-old twins, one of whom is autistic. On Veterans Day, the program was expanded to South Carolina with two donations in conjunction with Anderson Interfaith Ministries.

Since the programs’ inception, CCHS executives and service partners have donated more than 50 hours on this project and helped seven deserving families. Donations are timed around major military holidays throughout the year. CCHS’s goal is to expand the program across the country.
