The Suunto M2 heart rate monitor has been voted the best heart rate monitor for under $100 for people that require reading glasses by the Heart Rate Watch Company.
"Suunto got on this whole trend early with regards to aging baby boomers, and even older Gen X'ers, needing larger font sizes so they could read their heart rate without reading glasses," says Rusty Squire, President of the Heart Rate Watch Company. He adds, "Since Suunto has discontinued the M4, the M2 is the go-to heart rate monitor in the line up for those wanting real-time heart rate feedback".
At Polar heart rate monitors, they addressed the larger font sizes with a zoom feature they put on their upper-end Polar RCX5 but they have yet to address this across their entire line according to Squire. "Garmin also has not caught on with the extra large font or zoom feature wave but I think the fact that people are staying active later in life is starting to rise on their radar," says Squire.
The Suunto heart rate monitor watches are made in Finland and the company has a long history of manufacturing precision instruments like dive watches and compasses. "Suunto has some of the nicest fitness watch styling of any company in the heart rate monitor space," according to Squire.
For many people over the age of 45, larger font sizes and more comfortable straps are real issues. "Fortunately Suunto has one of the most comfortable chest straps in the business with their Suunto Comfort belt," says Squire. He adds, "Baby boomers and older Gen X'ers represent one-third of the US economy and they are staying active far longer than their parents did."
The Suunto M2 also comes in styles for both men and women, with the women's styles offer thinner wrist bands that contour for a better fit.
