Private, online fundraising for individuals trying to pay unforeseen medical bills is on the rise according to GiveForward.com president Ethan Austin. The interview appears in the e-newsletter: Movers, Shakers and Dealmakers, available on: http://www.fundology.com.

GiveForward.com provides online fundraising pages to help people raise money to cover out-of-pocket medical expenses for loved ones. Like a Facebook or LinkedIn profile with pictures and the individual’s story, a Give Forward page link can be sent to friends and family across the world who can then make contributions by credit card as well as offer moral support.

“People understand how health emergencies can cripple one’s finances,” says Fundology president and founder Kison Patel. “GiveForward provides a medium in which they can easily help a friend or loved one. This is another example of technology’s potential to unite the world.”

Founded in 2008 GiveForward predates other grass-roots e-funding phenomena such as “crowdfunding” and “kickstarting” and provides one-on-one fundraising coaching to each end user. “By the end of 2014 we want to become the first resource people think of when a loved one is sick,” says Austin. “We want the answer to be they’re going to start a “Give Forward” page.”
