Veracity Technology Solutions (VTS), an AGC Aerospace & Defense Company, has announced the development of a new non-destructive inspection process to detect defects in Alstom 11N2 gas power generation turbines.
“Based upon our customer’s requests, we’ve rapidly developed an inspection that meets a specific need within the 11N2 fleet,” stated Veracity President, Kevin McKinley. "Since inception, our technicians have already reduced the inspection time by 25% allowing our customers to more accurately plan their outage downtime.”
Based on the findings from a forced outage, the customer identified the trailing edge area as the root cause of a row 3 blade liberation. Working with the customer, Veracity developed an eddy current and borescope inspection to help mitigate the risk of this component failing during operation. The inspection can typically be completed in less than 8 hours and provides the users a method to monitor the suspect components at scheduled intervals.
