Beginning on Sunday, Mar.3 at 8PM, Linda Maria Frank and Karen Bonnet will present reviews of books by local authors. Featuring the works of local Long Island authors has been what Linda Maria Frank has been doing for the past 18 months on her local access TV show, "The Writer's Dream". She is now taking the concept to a popular Long Island radio show, "Halftime Howie".
According to Frank, there is so much talent on Long Island that it is easy to find authors who have written excellent books. This environment is also extremely competitive, and as an author Frank knows how difficult it is to get a platform to showcase your book(s). "That's what we do on "The Writer's Dream", but local access TV does not have the audience a show as popular as Howie Appel's does."
Having interviewed more than fifty authors on the TV show, Frank and Bonnet will have no trouble finding great books. Frank says they have done almost every genre from mystery, history, romance, kiddy lit, poetry, non-fiction, and plays, to name a few. Her first choice will be mystery/adventure. "It's what Karen and I write, and we'd like to launch the reviews with what we know best.
The “Halftime Howie” radio show, is broadcast on channel 1240 AM WGBB on Long Island. Since the show launched, Howie Appel said, the program has promoted “all things” Long Beach, from nightlife to restaurants, to sports and surfing, to music and festivals, to school and charity events. Since hurricane Sandy, Halloween 2012, the show is broadcast from several local venues, and has concentrated on raising funds to restore Long Beach, N.Y. which was devastated by the storm. Linking fundraising and book promotions is something Frank and Bonnet have done themselves.
