Learning important life skills is as important as academic knowledge.

Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) March 07, 2013

Learning important life skills is as important as academic knowledge. Teaching kindness when they are young allows them to be happier adults later on in life. Learning to be kind is an essential life skill for kids. Kindness for kids is one of the latest topics in the life skill series published on Kids Activities Blog. Not only can kindness help kids to behave better, it allows them to cope with more knowledge when they are not shown kindness by others.

Have You Filled A Bucket Today, written by Carol McCloud, is a great book for young children to understand the concept of kindness. Learning to be kind is like filling one's bucket on a daily basis. When being unkind, the bucket is simply emptied. The book illustrates where simple acts of kindness can lead to and how to embrace happiness.

Playing a bucket activity will help to understand the abstract concepts of the book. Simply get a bucket and make note cards with acts of kindness written on them such as smile, listen, please, thank you, hugs, chores, and helping. Then make another set of note cards with unkind behavior such as rude, impolite, raising our voices, ignoring, throwing things and using the body when angry. Making the note cards together with the child is the key to the whole activity.

This activity will start a dialogue in the family of all the acts of kindness and the things to show gratitude for on a daily basis. The kids will act as faucets to come up with ideas on how to fill each others buckets.

For detailed instructions and to get additional ideas on how to teach kindness, check out Kids Activities Blog this week. Come get inspired to get the kids learning important life skills.
