We’d like to recognize all eight companies who participated and give special congratulations to the three winning companies for their vision to bring radical advancements to energy technology and for delivering superb presentations.
New York, NY (PRWEB) March 01, 2013
Ultra Light Startups, the largest startup-investor pitch event organization in the U.S., today announced the winners from this week’s 4th annual ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit. The Future Energy pitch event featured eight early stage energy and clean technology startups, pitching to a panel of four top venture capital investors and an audience of 500-plus ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit attendees.
Future Energy, an Ultra Light Startups brand sponsored by Shell Game Changer, is a series of events that connects entrepreneurs, researchers, and private investors in the energy and clean technology industries to develop and commercialize radical solutions to the world’s energy challenges.
More than 200 startup companies applied to present at the Future Energy event at the ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit. Of these applicants, eight finalists were selected to present at the Summit by the Future Energy Selection Committee and crowd-voting website.
Following the eight startup pitches, the audience was asked to vote for their favorite startups. The top three startups by audience voting were:
First Place: Transatomic Power, a technology for turning nuclear waste into a safe, clean, and scalable source of electricity. Transatomic Power is based in Boston and was presented by Co-founder and CEO, Russ Wilcox.
Second Place: BDL Water, a treatment and recycling technology for on-site processing of frack water. BDL Water is based in Denver and was presented by President and CEO Stuart Forrest.
Third Place: HEVO Power, a wireless electric vehicle recharging technology. HEVO Power is based in New York City and was presented by Founder and CEO Jeremy McCool.
Audience members also picked their favorite panelist on the basis of their feedback and advice to the presenting startups. David Wells, Partner at Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield and Byers was named the winning panelist based on audience votes.
“Our first Future Energy event at an ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit was a resounding success,” said Graham Lawlor, founder of Ultra Light Startups and Future Energy. We’d like to recognize all eight companies who participated and give special congratulations to the three winning companies for their vision to bring radical advancements to energy technology and for delivering superb presentations. We hope the exposure these companies gain will further our shared mission to connect entrepreneurs with corporate and private investors and push game-changing technology into the industry spotlight.”
“This event at ARPA-E gives us great momentum heading into our next Investor Feedback Forum at MIT on April 4,” added Cris De Luca, founder of Ultra Light Startups’ Boston chapter. “We look forward to discovering and selecting the next group of innovative companies, and applications are being accepted through March 1 – so there’s still a chance to apply if you haven’t already!”
For startups interested in participating in other upcoming Future Energy Investor Feedback Forums, the next events are scheduled for April 4 at MIT, April 24 at Stanford University, and June 13 in New York.
